Martyn Waghorn lured by regular football at Leicester

Leicester City striker Martyn Waghorn said he happily dropped down a division because the lure of playing regular football was too good to turn down.

Waghorn scored 12 goals during a successful loan stint with the Foxes last season and he jumped at the chance to return on a permanent basis.

"I knew I was going to come and play football," the former Sunderland forward, 20, told BBC Radio Leicester.

"Sometimes you must take a step back to take two forward. Hopefully that's me."

Sunderland fan Waghorn, whose fee could rise to £3m, added: "There were no second thoughts.

"I settled here, with the lads and the fans. I had a great year last year and everything fitted in so well.

"I know the lads, the fans, the backroom staff - it was an easy decision."

And Waghorn hopes he can play a part in helping the team recover from a slow start to the season which has seen then pick up just one point from four games.

"We have struggled but we've played some tough games," Waghorn added. "Hopefully the likes of me and few other signings coming in can boost the side."
