Leicester defender Bruno Berner retains World Cup dream

Leicester City left-back Bruno Berner has not given up hope of winning his place back in the Switzerland side ahead of the World Cup in South Africa.

But Berner, whose goal against Nottingham Forest on Saturday set the Foxes on the way to a 3-0 win, told BBC Radio Leicester time is running out.

The 32-year-old, who has won 16 caps, was left out of the national squad for next week's friendly against Uruguay.

He said: "I'm ready but there is not much time left so it'll be difficult."

Berner's club manager Nigel Pearson has said that the defender is in the kind of form that is good enough to earn a recall.

"I appreciate his words and you never know," Berner said. "But we are very strong on the left side.

"I will be focused on Leicester for the next few weeks and if my country call me up I will be ready."

Berner's club form, which has helped the Foxes to fifth spot in the Championship table, has certainly put him back in the frame.

The former Blackburn Rovers full-back has started 26 league games this season, scoring three goals and has played a key role in the Leicester's promotion push.

"We are unbeaten in eight that's fantastic but we definitely won't switch off," Berner said.

"We want to have a good March. The win against Forest was fantastic for the morale in the dressing room."

And he hopes the team will continue their good run when they are away against struggling Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

"We are on a high they are definitely on low so we need to take advantage of that situation next week," Berner added.
