Fryatt has netted back-to-back hat tricks

Leicester City striker Matty Fryatt has become the first Foxes player to score 20 goals for the club before Christmas since the late Derek Dougan in 1966.

The 22-year-old bagged his second hat-trick in successive games to help beat Southend United 3-0 on Saturday and take his season's tally to 22.

"He's had back-to-back hat tricks which I think is pretty unique," Foxes boss Nigel Pearson told BBC Radio Leicester.

"But the bottom line is that he plays well if the team play well."

I'm delighted for Matty Fryatt and it's pleasing for us because it keeps us on track

Foxes boss Nigel Pearson

Fryatt's latest treble made him the first City player in 83 years (since Arthur Chandler in 1925) to hit hat-tricks in successive matches.

"It's a very satisfying spell for him in terms of scoring goals," said Pearson. "And I'm delighted for him.

"He works hard. And he's had a difficult time at the club.

"And it's pleasing for us because it keeps us on track."

League One leaders Leicester are now two points clear of second-placed Millwall at the top - and four points clear of the play-off pack.

Their next test is on Saturday (1500 GMT) at one of Pearson's old clubs Carlisle United, who have picked up in the league since last month's sacking of John Ward.
