Legend Rowley remembered
Leicester are to hold a minute's silence in memory of club legend Arthur Rowley before their Boxing Day game against Ipswich.
The Filbert Street great died earlier this week at the age of 76. Rowley notched a Football League record 434 goals - 251 of them for Leicester - in 619 games during a 19-year career. He began his career at hometown Wolves before moving on to spells at West Brom and Fulham. But it was after his move to Leicester in 1951 that Rowley really blossomed. He scored 28 goals in his first season for the Foxes - incredibly his lowest tally for the club - and hit a club record 38 the following season. Rowley topped that with 39 in 1952-53 and then scored a phenomenal 44 from 42 games in 1956-57. Rowley left Leicester for Shrewsbury after eight seasons, having amassed 265 goals for the club in 321 appearances, including 16 hat-tricks. He finished his career with the Shrews, who will also pay tribute ahead of their Boxing Day game with Bury. |
