Wise takes Foxes to court
Dennis Wise will claim that he was unfairly dismissed
Wise will claim that he was unfairly dismissed
Dennis Wise is suing his old club Leicester City for more than 2.3m in lost earnings over his sacking in August.

Wise was fired by the Foxes after he fractured team-mate Callum Davidson's jaw in an incident on the club's pre-season tour of Finland.

The former England player challenged his dismissal but a four-man tribunal panel ruled last month that Leicester were within their rights to sack him.

However, Wise has now launched a High Court action against the club for wrongful dismissal.

A statement released through his solicitors on Thursday said: "We confirm that civil proceedings have today been commenced in the High Court on behalf of Dennis Wise, against Leicester City Football Club plc, for wrongful termination of his employment on 14 August 2002.

"The claim is for a sum in excess of 2.36m.

"Separate employment tribunal proceedings are to be instituted shortly in regard to unfair dismissal in addition to the civil proceedings."

Leicester said on Thursday they would not comment until they had seen all the legal documentation concerning the matter.

But Wise's move comes at the worst possible time for Leicester, with the club understood to be around 30m in debt.

Current players agreed on Wednesday to defer 20% of their weekly earnings to try and ease the club's plight following their relegation from the Premiership in May.

But their former team-mate's legal action adds to the Foxes' problems considerably.

Wise joined Millwall six days after his departure from Leicester.

The former Chelsea captain made 19 appearances for City, scoring just one goal.

He signed a two-season deal with Millwall on 24 September and has so far made three appearances for the south London club.
