Bassett to groom Adams
New Leicester manager Dave Bassett
Can Bassett preserve Leicester's Premiership status?
New Leicester City manager Dave Bassett says that his assistant Micky Adams will have his job one day.

The pair, who have previously worked together at Nottingham Forest, were officially confirmed as the new managerial team at Filbert Street on Wednesday.

"Clearly we need to work very hard very quickly but I can assure everyone that is exactly what myself and Micky will be doing," Bassett said.

"I think Micky is the young sexy one and I'm the old codger. I am not going to be going on forever.

"I have had the experience of 20 years as a manager. I look forward to the day he replaces me. It would prove he has been successful and I have."

Adams would have liked to have been given the chance to succeed Peter Taylor in his own right.

He said: "I'm disappointed the chairman of Leicester City didn't ring me and offer me the job - but this is my way in I'll take it.

"I would have not come here just to be an assistant manager if they were not looking to me to progress."

But Chairman John Elsom confirmed that Adams had been brought in as a long-term move.

"We have consistently said we have been looking for an experienced pair of hands and Dave is unquestionably one of the most experienced managers currently operating in the game.

"Micky is carving out a fantastic reputation for himself as a manager.

"We believe that the footballing blend of Dave and Micky is a fantastic combination of experience and potential which will stand Leicester City in excellent stead.

"Everyone knows that our immediate aim is to secure Premiership football this season.

"Dave and Micky can lay down a footballing blueprint for future years and maximise our ability to continue to offer high-quality football in the high-quality surroundings of our new stadium."

Adams has managed Fulham, Swansea, Brentford and Brighton, while Bassett can claim over 20 years of managerial experience.

"To be part of the Premiership again is a dream come true," Adams added.

"Leicester have given me a great opportunity and I am relishing the chance to work again with Dave."

"I had a fantastic time with Brighton and would like to thank them for the way they allowed me permission to speak with Leicester.

"It has been done properly and that is very important to me."
