Taylor ready to help out
Peter Taylor
Peter Taylor departs from Filbert Street
Sacked Leicester City manager Peter Taylor has indicated he would be willing to scout for England on a short term basis - if asked.

But he insists his priority is to return at club level as soon as possible.

Former England Under-21 boss Taylor was reacting to reports that he could be asked to help out his country's preparations for the 2002 World Cup in a scouting capacity.

The former Spurs winger took charge of England for a friendly against Italy, and had been part of Sven Goran Eriksson's coaching team.

But he said: "I can assure you that I have had no contact with anyone from the FA over a scouting role.

"But if, in a couple of weeks time, they want me to help out watching players or go to watch teams and help like that then I would be willing to lend a hand.

"I would be interested in something like that in the current interim period between jobs if it got me out watching matches.

"But in an ideal world I would like to get my future sorted out as quickly as I can.

"I might take a short holiday, but I enjoy the day-to-day involvement with players more than anything and would like to get back into things as soon as possible."

Whether Taylor stays in management or returns to coaching - which is widely regarded as his strength - remains to be seen.

He said: "We will have to see what comes in and what is available."
