Elliott carries on as captain
Matt Elliott (l) in the thick of the action
Elliott will continue to lead the team
Matt Elliot has been boosted by manager Peter Taylor's assurance that he will continue to wear the captain's armband.

The news comes in a week which saw Celtic launch an unsuccessful £3.5m bid for the Leicester City defender.

And it also ends speculation that new arrival Dennis Wise was set to take over the skipper's role.

Elliott admits that he is not the perfect captain but he says he wants to work at it
Peter Taylor

Taylor said: "The way I feel at the moment is that I don't particularly want to make a change on the captaincy.

"If we agree in the season that things are not working out, then I'll do that but at the moment I'm happy for Matt Elliott to stay as captain.

"I've had a good meeting with him and I think he also admits that he is not the perfect captain but he says he wants to work at it so that's the plan."

Aiming for Europe

City chairman John Elsom is backing Leicester to put their end of season horror show - when they lost nine of their last 10 matches - behind them and challenge for a European spot.

Elsom believes City are a force to be reckoned with after signing Wise, Ian Walker and James Scowcroft.

He said: "Do not forget that on 3 March we were fourth in the Premiership and were up there or thereabouts all season.

"Even at the start of April we were in the top seven. We know we went down after that but we had 11 first-teamers injured for the greater part of that time and other players turning out when not fit.

"I'd like to think we have got a stronger team than last year. We should be in good fettle to do well and, I hope, challenge for a European spot."
