Martyn extends contract
![]() Nigel Martyn's new contract - something to shout about
Goalkeeper Nigel Martyn has ensured his future will be with Leeds United signing a two-year extension to his current contract.
Martyn has finally put pen to paper after weeks of talks with chairman Peter Ridsdale. Leeds United, battling to improve their chances of winning the Premiership, are keen to hold on to their star players by tying them to long-term contracts. Martyn is also fighting for the England number one jersey and will now stay at Elland Road until 2004 and it is certain to be the last contract of his Premiership career.
Ridsdale said: "I am delighted Nigel has joined many of his other team-mates by agreeing to stay at Leeds for a considerable period of time." Kewell Negotiations are still ongoing with Australian international striker Harry Kewell regarding a new, improved five-year contract. Ridsdale has already held a first round of talks with representatives of the 21-year-old, whom he insisted this week he would not sell, even for a world record £50million. Ridsdale admits he is waiting for Kewell's agents to fly in from Australia to hold further discussions, which could be as early as next week.
