Striker Paul Dickov says he is determined to win a regular starting spot for Leeds United.

The former Scotland international has come off the bench in Leeds' last two matches after signing a deal until the end of the season.

"I have to fight for a place in the team like everyone else," Dickov told BBC Radio Leeds.

"But I want to start as many matches as I can and when my opportunity comes along I'll be determined to take it."

The 37-year-old signed a short-term deal at Elland Road at the start of March after training with the club for a few months following the cancellation of his contract at Leicester City.

Being at Leeds is everything I expected. It's big club, a great club, a club that shouldn't be in this league.

"Luciano Becchio and Jermaine Beckford are both scoring goals at the moment, so I know I have to sit and wait for my chance and will be ready when it comes," explained Dickov.

"I was brought in here to push everyone and add competition to the striking unit and that's what I intend to do.

"Being at Leeds is everything I expected. It's big club, a great club, a club that shouldn't be in this league. Hopefully I can come in and play my part in helping them get promoted.

"I've know Simon [Grayson] a long time on and off the pitch as a player then manger, and he's clearly got the guys at it here.

"He's got Leeds organised and they are playing good football. His training sessions are always good and the basis of all of this is hard work.

"If we work hard and are organised we are going to win football matches and we saw that at Tranmere on Tuesday."
