Leeds United midfielder Bradley Johnson has revealed that he could play at the World Cup next summer for the USA.

The 22-year-old, who has scored six goals for Leeds this season, qualifies through his late grandfather.

He told the Leeds website: "They have phoned me up and asked if I was eligible to play for them and would I like to?

"I said I would if the chance came along, but I'm just concentrating on Leeds at the moment."

Johnson added: "I've known for a long time I could play for them.

"My dad to speaks to our family in America, my grandfather was afro-American, so I've always known.

"A call-up would be an extra bonus for me. But I don't want to jump too far ahead.

"They have said they are looking at me and, if I was to get called up it would be based on my performances at Leeds, which is what I'm focusing on.

"As a kid I watched the World Cup and you think 'I want to play in that'.

"The best players in the world play and if I was to be involved it would be a massive boost for me."

Johnson joined Leeds from Northampton in January 200.

He then fell out of favour under previous manager Gary McAllister last season and went on loan to Brighton.

But, since his return to Elland Road, he has established himself in the first team.
