Beckford going nowhere - Grayson

Leeds United manager Simon Grayson has reiterated that Jermaine Beckford is staying at Elland Road for now.

Last season's leading scorer missed Monday's Carling Cup win at Darlington, prompting speculation he had been left out to avoid being cup-tied.

But Grayson told BBC Radio Leeds: "Everybody and anybody can speculate but I've said all along - Jermaine Beckford was injured today.

"He isn't going anywhere - he'll be here at the end of the season."

"If he stays beyond that then happy days for everybody but he isn't leaving the football club, that is for sure."

Beckford was placed on the transfer list in May after rejecting the club's offer of a new contract, but has since been taken off it.

The 25-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and BBC Radio Leeds understands that West Bromwich Albion have made a substantial bid for the forward.

Contrary to speculation he wasn't getting cup-tied or anything like that - he is injured

His omission from Leeds' 1-0 victory at Darlington fuelled rumours that Leeds wanted to avoid him being cup-tied.

Beckford underlined his value to the team with both goals in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Exeter and Grayson insisted his absence on Tuesday was due to a knock picked up on Saturday.

"He fell on his knee at the weekend and had a fitness test this [Monday] morning," he said.

"Contrary to speculation he wasn't getting cup-tied or anything like that - he is injured."
