Leeds United defender Rui Marques is determined to use the final year of his contract to earn a new deal and to win promotion with the League One side.

The 31-year-old Angola international told BBC Radio Leeds: "I need to be at my best to maybe stay another couple of years at Leeds. We are happy here.

"But in football you can never say this is it. Sometimes some doors will open.

"I can say I am focussed on Leeds United. This is my club and I still have one more year on my contract."

The centre-back added: "All my attention is to help the team achieve promotion."

Marques was signed by former manager Kevin Blackwell in 2005 having previously played for German side VfB Stuttgart and CS Maritimo in Portugal.

After a short loan spell at Hull City, Marques has become a regular starter for Leeds making over 60 league appearances in the past two seasons.
