Eirik Bakke will return to Leeds after having his loan spell at Aston Villa ended prematurely.
The 28-year-old midfielder has been on loan since October and Villa boss David O'Leary had been hoping to extend the deal until the end of the season.
However, Leeds will only allow the Norwegian to leave on a permanent deal.
On Tuesday, O'Leary admitted: "If Leeds want us to buy Eirik now or make a commitment like that, he would go back. I'm not in a position to do that."
