Fowler joins Man City
![]() Fowler could make his City debut on Saturday
Robbie Fowler has completed his £6m move from Leeds to Man City.
The 27-year-old agreed a three-and-a-half year contract after speaking to City manager Kevin Keegan on Wednesday.
Fowler had been widely expected to move to City earlier this month in a £7m deal - only for the player to pull out at the last minute after passing a medical. He said a personal visit from Keegan had been the key to him completing the move. "Kevin Keegan came over to my house and spoke great things about Manchester City, the ambition of the club and what we can achieve here, " said Fowler. "As soon as he came to see me, I knew that this was the club for me. It showed how much he wanted to sign me. "It was a big decision to make. I didn't want to be seen to be a player who moved from club to club. "But with the situation at Leeds they needed to sell. Kevin Keegan came back in for me and that proved how much he wanted me."
The England forward has participated in his first training session at Carrington with the aim of making the starting line-up against West Brom at Maine Road on Saturday. Keegan was delighted to have finally got his man. "First and foremost the thought of him playing with Nicolas Anelka is a dream pairing for me," he said. "I like my forwards to be different and they are certainly different. You can't compare them and I can see that working out very well. "Robbie is proven. He knows the Premiership and his goal record is second-to-none." The new deal sees Man City pay an initial fee of £3m and a further £3m when the player has made a certain number of first-team appearances.
Keegan took his share of responsibility for the collapse in negotations that jeopardised Fowler's move to Maine Road. "The deal collapsed last time because I didn't spend enough time with Robbie explaining why I wanted him here," he said. "Everyone knows Leeds had to sell someone but it wasn't a straightforward deal and he just needed to feel as though he had some say in it."
