Bridges faces operation
Michael Bridges
Michael Bridges' career hangs in the balance
Leeds striker Michael Bridges will undergo knee surgery in the United States in an attempt to save his career.

The operation will be carried out next week by American surgeon Richard Steadman - the man responsible for treating Ruud van Nistelrooy, Alan Shearer, Patrick Berger and Jamie Redknapp.

The news comes only a month after Bridges returned from a consultation with Steadman in Colorado having been told he would not require surgery.

Bridges is injured against Besiktas in the Uefa Cup
The 23-year-old has been out of action since suffering a calf and Achilles injury against Besiktas in Istanbul last September.

He managed two reserve team appearances towards the end of last season before breaking down with tendon problems in his knee.

Bridges was Leeds' record signing when he made a 5m move from Sunderland two weeks before the 1999/2000 season.

He went on to score more than 20 goals and become the club's top scorer in his first full season.
