Leeds go to town
Duberry was one of the few first-team players in action
Harrogate 1 Leeds 3
Leeds ran out 3-1 winners over Unibond League side Harrogate Town in a pre-season friendly at Wetherby Road on Monday. A Simon Johnson goal just before half-time gave the Elland Road side the lead against their lower league neighbours. But Leeds did not have it all their own way and were pegged back in the 48th minute when Town's Mick McNaughton levelled the scores. Michael Duberry - one of only a handful of first-teamers playing tonight - then put Leeds back in front against a side managed by former star Neil Aspin. Harrogate have a strong Leeds influence - they are owned by former United chairman Bill Fotherby, have another former Whites chief, Leslie Silver, as president, while manager Neil Aspin used to play at Elland Road. But there was no charity from Leeds who wrapped up victory in the 80th minute when promising young Australian Shane Cansdell-Sherriff found the net. |
