Kilmarnock manager Mixu Paatelainen questions red card

Kilmarnock manager Mixu Paatelainen has criticised the decision to show a red card to Jamie Hamill in his side's 1-1 draw away to Hamilton Academical.

"I thought we were fantastic. I thought we passed the ball excellently. Eleven v 11, the half an hour we had, we were tremendous," said Paatelainen.

"Then we got the man sent off - for nothing in my opinion.

"It was never a foul. With 10 men, we dominated the match. We should have killed the game off."

Paatelainen did not wish to comment on Hamilton forward Flavio Paixao's role in the dismissal for a second yellow card after only 29 minutes and avoided criticising referee Brian Winter.

A late equaliser from Mickael Antoine-Curier denied Kilmarnock the three points, but their manager was delighted with his team.

I think there were quite a few clubs here watching Conor Sammon

"I must congratulate our players," he said. "The composure they had, the movement off the ball, the passing, the creation of chances."

Conor Sammon, who rejected a transfer to Scunthorpe United this month, had scored his 18th goal of the season to give Kilmarnock the lead.

With a host of other English clubs at New Douglas Park to watch the game, the Irishman could yet leave Rugby Park before the transfer window closes on Monday evening.

"What happens in the next couple of days, I really don't know," said Paatelainen.

"I think there were quite a few clubs here watching him.

"He took his goal well again. His willingness to work hard, his willingness to make good positive runs, his timing of those, he has really improved on those aspects.

"And, when he gets a chance to score a goal, he rarely misses and that is a sign of a quality striker."

Paatelainen was also delighted with the performance of new signing Willy Aubameyang, who arrived in midweek after being freed by AC Milan and was a 32nd-minute substitute.

"He had no problems and was well equipped to handle the pace of the Scottish game and the physicality of it," said the manager of the midfielder.
