Kilmarnock's Mixu Paatelainen looks for new recruits

Paatelainen says Killie love playing at St Mirren Park

Kilmarnock manager Mixu Paatelainen is looking to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window.

Left-back Ben Gordon's loan from Chelsea has expired but the Finnish boss was bullish after his team's 2-0 win on Monday at St Mirren Park.

"We have players who can come in and do a job for us and we'll get players in who know exactly what to do," he said.

"With players leaving, we want to make sure that our squad is competitive and all the positions are well covered."

And he added: "All the time we are looking to improve our squad - it never stops."

Kilmarnock sit fourth in the Scottish Premier League, having taken 23 points from their last 10 games, but it took them a while to wear down St Mirren, with Liam Kelly and Craig Bryson scoring the Ayrshiremen's goals in the second half.

"I'm delighted," Paatelainen told BBC Scotland after the game.

"St Mirren are a spirited team. They have plenty energy and strikers who can cause you damage.

"We love this place because it is a big playing surface and it's in good nick and you can pass the ball and move and I think we passed the ball reasonably well today.

"But I think we have played better. I don't think we exploited their back three enough. It's all about movement: if there's movement up front, then you can pass the ball; if there's not, it's very difficult.

"We scored two great goals from midfielders - Kelly and Bryson. The first goal was great, the free-kick taken wide, a good ball in and an easy tap-in for Kelly - but you need to be there."
