Killie sign Scott Severin, Chris Maguire, Rob Kiernan

Scott Severin has returned to the Scottish Premier League, joining Kilmarnock on loan with Watford team-mate Rob Kiernan until the summer.

And Killie boss Jimmy Calderwood has returned to former club Aberdeen to secure striker Chris Maguire also on loan until the end of the season.

Midfielder Severin had recommended defender Kiernan to Calderwood.

He impressed on trial and now Severin himself has joined Calderwood, who he played under at Pittodrie, with Killie.

Severin, who began his career with Hearts, had moved to Watford on freedom of contract in August, but the 30-year-old Scotland midfielder has started just six games for the Coca-Cola Championship outfit.

The 19-year-old Kiernan, who came through the youth academy at Watford from the age of nine, spent last week training with Killie.

The Irish Under-19 international started out in the heart of the midfield for a long spell before moving back to centre-half last season.

Severin could be joined at Rugby Park by another former team-mate, with 21-year-old Maguire poised to join on loan from Aberdeen.

Maguire made his first-team debut for the Dons in December 2006 and has made 21 appearances this season.

However, manager Mark McGhee has allowed him to leave despite having also sold fellow striker Lee Miller to Middlesbrough.

McGhee has secured former Rangers forward Steven MacLean from Plymouth on loan.

Calderwood, who this month took over at Killie after the departure of Jim Jefferies, was keen to bolster his squad after injuries to several key players for up to six weeks.

Defenders Frazer Wright and Ryan O'Leary and strikers Allan Russell and Mark Burchill are all sidelined.

Meanwhile, Kilmarnock knocked back inquiries about striker Kevin Kyle, who will remain with the club at least until his contract ends in the summer.
