Jefferies angered by summit snub

Kilmarnock manager Jim Jefferies is upset at his omission from the recent SPL working party.

League chairman Lex Gold invited six managers to discuss possible changes to the top-flight earlier this month.

Gold later asked the Killie boss to attend after being informed of his anger over the perceived snub but Jefferies declined the invitation.

"Maybe 20 years' experience in the game isn't the right requirement for Scottish football," said Jefferies.

Gordon Strachan, Walter Smith, Mark McGhee, John Hughes, Jimmy Calderwood and Craig Levein all attended a Hampden meeting on 3 December and another gathering is planned for January.

"When I got a call from Lex to invite me in the back door he said he didn't think it was my cup of tea - which was a strange comment," added Jefferies.

"My view is all 12 managers should have been there.

"I wasn't going in the back door. The experience I have isn't enough for Lex so I'll leave it at that."

Gold would not divulge any of the topics under discussion until a report had been submitted to the SPL board and the 12 member clubs.

However, Jefferies said: "It was also said they would refer back to the other managers, but I haven't heard from Lex."

On Friday, the Rugby Park boss told BBC Sport he would be in favour of expanding the SPL.
