Jefferies targets better forwards

Kilmarnock manager Jim Jefferies
Jefferies will be chasing new strikers over the summer

Kilmarnock manager Jim Jefferies rued his side's lack of goal threat after losing out at St Mirren.

"We didn't play well in the first half and we were always on the back foot because they passed it better than us," Jefferies told BBC Sport.

"We improved in the second half but we don't have a natural goal-scorer.

"A good finisher might have had one or two goals with the wee chances in and around the penalty box. We need to sign a couple of strikers."

Kilmarnock are close to agreeing a deal for Airdrie United's top scorer Allan Russell.

And Jefferies aims to further rebuild his squad over the summer after a disappointing campaign.

"We need a bit of quality to make up for the players we have lost," he said.

St Mirren defender Will Haining headed a late goal from a free kick to win a dull game and Jefferies was upset about the award.

"It was never a foul," he fumed. "Jim Hamilton has used his experience on a young kid and conned the referee.

"Having said that, we had chances to deal with it and didn't.

"That's been the story of our season. We've lost a lot of goals from silly situations."
