Kidderminster Harriers assistant manager Neil Howarth says midfielder Simon Russell has left Aggborough with the club's best wishes for the future.
Russell has joined York and Howarth feels it will be a good move for him.
Howarth told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "His contract situation was dragging on and he's had an opportunity to move back home and play for a local club.
"They're people, not pieces of meat, and you have got to do what's right by the player sometimes."
