Thomas certain of Poppies quality

Kettering Town trialist Danny Thomas says that they are a better side than the loss to AFC Wimbledon suggested.

The 28-year-old midfielder scored for the Poppies in the 2-1 home defeat to the Blue Square Premier newcomers.

Thomas told BBC Radio Northampton: "It's nice to score, but the result overshadows my own personal glory.

"We're disappointed because we finished the game quite well, with a decent tempo, but we can do better than that as a team."

At 2-1 down, Kettering were denied a penalty in the last moments of the game, when the ball appeared to hit AFC Wimbledon's Lewis Taylor's hand in the box.

"A few of our players appealed, and they were adamant. The linesman and the referee haven't given it. But we didn't put AFC under enough pressure in the game," Thomas added.

Thomas is waiting to hear if he has secured a deal at the Elgoods Brewery Arena. His previous clubs include Bournemouth, Boston United and Macclesfield Town.

"I've only been training here for two weeks, but from what I've seen, the ability is very high here," he said.

"The sooner it gets sorted the better for me, as it means I can concentrate on my football rather than anything off the field."
