Kettering Town have signed experienced striker Jason Lee from fellow Blue Square Premier side Mansfield Town.

The much-travelled 37-year-old, London-born, former Nottingham Forest and Notts County target man has signed until the end of the season.

"I've seen a few negative comments from our supporters already which drives me crackers," Kettering boss Mark Cooper told BBC Radio Northampton.

"Jason gives us something we haven't got which is a real presence up front.

Poppies manager Cooper was sold on Lee after seeing him come off the bench as a late substitute to help beat Kettering in Mansfield's 3-1 win at Rockingham Road on Boxing Day.

"He played against us for 20 minutes and battered our two centre-backs into submission," said Cooper. "And there's not many strikers that do that.

"He's not going to get it and do seven Cruyff turns and go past three people and smash it into the top corner.

"But he's going to keep defenders occupied and win a lot of balls in the air and make goals for people.

"I was after him in the summer but for one reason or another it didn't happen so I'm pleased to get him."

Lee, who began as a trainee at Charlton Athletic, will be making the 16th move of his career.

Apart from Forest, County and Mansfield, he also played for Lincoln City, Southend United, Watford, Chesterfield, Peterborough United, Falkirk, Boston United and Northampton Town and had loan spells with Stockport County, back at his first club Charlton and Grimsby Town.

After choosing Mansfield over Kettering when he was released by Notts County in August, his first move into non-league football, Lee scored three times in the Stags' first four games.

That took his career tally to 123 goals in 626 games (159 of which he has started on the bench). But he has not scored since - and has now been deemed surplus to requirements by new Mansfield boss David Holdsworth.
