Ipswich Town midfielder David Norris reveals talks snag

David Norris
Norris netted his ninth goal of the season against Sheffield United

Ipswich Town midfielder David Norris says contract talks with the club have stalled over the length of the deal.

The 29-year-old, who is set to be a free agent in the summer, told BBC Radio Suffolk he has not had any further discussions since November.

"I'm nowhere on contract talks. I had the offer two months ago, it wasn't quite right for me," he said.

"It was for two years, I was hoping to get three and since then I haven't heard anything."

Norris took his goal tally for the season to nine in Saturday's 3-0 win over Sheffield United, his highest ever haul in a single season.

But he is one of 20 players whose Town contract expires at the end of the campaign, with boss Paul Jewell admitting he will wait until Ipswich secure their Championship future before sorting out new deals.

Norris added: "It hasn't gone past the negotiation on years, so there's been no big demands.

"It's just a matter of hoping we could negotiate on things but it might have been difficult with the new manager coming in and slowing things down.

"I'm settled here, the family's settled here, I'm close to my family, it's a great football club. The grass isn't always greener."

Portsmouth and Crystal Palace both made their interest in the former Plymouth man clear during the January transfer window, with Town rejecting their approaches.

"I tend to leave all that stuff to my agent away from the game," said Norris, who turns 30 later this month.

"If someone comes in I'm going to listen to what they have to say, I'd be stupid not to at least hear people out.

"But I haven't signed anything with anybody else, which I can do, so I'm still hopeful here."
