Ipswich Town swoop for Luton Town winger Andy Drury
Drury has played all his football in the non-league
Ipswich Town have signed Luton winger Andy Drury after activating a £150,000 release clause in his contract.
The 27-year-old, who has agreed a two-and-a-half-year deal, is unlikely to be available for Tuesday's trip to Derby.
Drury has netted eight times in 26 games for the Blue Square Bet Premier side this season.
"For the money we got him for and his ability I think it's a really good deal and a really good addition," Town boss Paul Jewell told BBC Radio Suffolk.
"If Andy gets in and gets a chance I don't think he'll disappoint people.
"He can play right-side and left-side of midfield and down the middle, he's a good technician with a good delivery from dead balls."
After helping Stevenage to promotion to League Two last season Drury turned down a new contract at Broadhall Way and chose to drop back down a division to join the Hatters.
He had two years at Stevenage, scoring seven goals in 57 league appearances, after spells at non-league outfits Sittingbourne, Ebbsfleet and Lewes.
Meanwhile Jewell is confident there will be no exits from Portman Road before the January transfer deadline.
Midfielder David Norris, whose contract is set to expire in June, was being chased by Portsmouth while the likes of Gareth McAuley and Damien Delaney will also be free agents in the summer.
"The owner deserves credit because we've had a couple of fairly hefty offers for players whose contracts are running out," said Jewell.
"But we don't want to lose our players. I can't agree terms with them at the moment but I've said to those players give it all you've got and put the ball back in our court at the end of the season.
"I haven't spoken to them all but certainly the ones that have been in the news all want to stay here."
