Jason Scotland finalises Ipswich Town switch

I can play Ipswich lone role - Scotland

Jason Scotland has ended weeks of speculation by joining Ipswich Town from Wigan for an undisclosed fee.

The 31-year-old striker, who scored 45 goals in 90 league games over two years for Swansea City, has signed a two-year deal at Portman Road.

He told BBC Radio Suffolk: "It's been difficult at Wigan, I've not been enjoying my football like I enjoyed it at Swansea.

"Hopefully I can be back out scoring goals and enjoying my football."

The move was on the cards for more than two weeks, with the Latics accepting an offer for the Trindadian before the start of the Premier League season.

The frontman will go straight into the squad for Tuesday's League Cup trip to Crewe after closing the door on a torrid time at the DW Stadium.

Despite Scotland's success in the Championship and League One for Swansea, his £2m move to Wigan to follow manager Martinez last summer saw him find the net just once in 32 Premier League appearances.

"There was a different atmosphere, being in the dressing room was completely different," he said.

"There was a lot of Spanish and French speaking players, it's not about slagging off the boys but it just didn't click for some reason."

The former St Johnstone player revealed he had rejected the opportunity to make a return to the Swans.

"They were interested in taking me back but I'm thinking you never go back," he added.

"But I had a good time at Swansea, I enjoyed my time there and I always thank the fans and the chairman."

Town boss Roy Keane had hoped to secure Scotland's signature a week ago but Simon Clegg explained why it had taken longer than expected.

The club's chief executive said: "The deal was actually agreed last week but because of the Wigan manager's requirements to have Jason available for Saturday's game against Chelsea the deal couldn't be completed until today.

"I think securing Jason underlines the ambitions of this club to be playing Premier League football."
