Ipswich make 10m operating loss

Ipswich Town

Ipswich Town have reported a loss of £10.3m for the year to 30 June 2009 - a rise of more than £6m compared to the previous financial year.

In a shareholder statement, the club revealed the wage bill for players and coaching staff rose from £8.3m to £11.9m with £7.2m spent on new players.

During that period players brought in included Grant Leadbitter, Tamas Priskin and Carlos Edwards.

Businessman Marcus Evans bought 87.5% of the club's shares in 2007.

The report to shareholders said the club, currently bottom of the Championship, was dependent on the financial support of his company, the Marcus Evans Group.

The club's overall deficit remains around £35m, although it says it is not in debt to any financial institution.
