Our defence must improve - Wright

Ipswich goalkeeper Richard Wright says he and the club's defenders need to improve if they are to turn around a poor start to the season.

Ipswich are languishing second-from-bottom in the Championship with no wins from their opening eight league games.

Wright told BBC Radio Suffolk: "Defensively we've got to do a lot better, myself included.

"We're all part of this as a team and the amount of goals we've conceded is not good enough for us."

Before the game against Newcastle United on Saturday, Ipswich will rename the North Stand at Portman Road in honour of Sir Bobby Robson.

But Wright insists while they remain respectful of Robson's achievements, they desperately need to concentrate on the game against their former manager's hometown club.

"There's a great affection for Sir Bobby Robson at this football club and we have to be proud of what he has done and we respect that as players," Wright said.

"But on Saturday we have a job to go and do and the main thing is that we go out and give a good performance and try and get three points."
