Ipswich have re-signed Charlton midfielder Darren Ambrose on an initial two-month loan contract.

The 24-year-old left Portman Road for Newcastle in 2003 for 1m before joining Charlton two years later in a 1.5m deal.

Ipswich manager Jim Magilton told the club's website: "I have played with Darren and know what qualities he has."

Ambrose will remain at Ipswich until 2 January and is likely to feature at Doncaster on Saturday.

Charlton manager Alan Pardew said Ambrose had to make way for potential loan signings at the club.

Pardew told Charlton's website: "Someone had to be sacrificed to give us the financial room to bring one or two in, and Darren was the option I've taken."

Ambrose has made 116 appearances for the Addicks, scoring 16 goals, but missed the start of this season after undergoing a hip operation in the summer.
