Knee injury forces Fish to retire
Mark Fish
Fish was an experienced South African international
Former Charlton defender Mark Fish has had to retire because of a long-standing knee injury.

Ipswich had signed the South African on a month's loan following a trial spell and he played 45 minutes for the club against QPR in the Championship.

"I can no longer play to the standards I have set myself and therefore I feel it is time to move on," he said.

Fish played over 200 matches in England after joining Bolton Wanderers from Italian club Lazio in 1997.

He won 62 caps for his country in an 11-year international career and was a member of the South Africa side that won the 1996 African Nations Cup.

Fish also played at the 1998 World Cup finals in France but was ruled out of the World Cup four years later because of injury.
