Defender Graeme Shinnie has signed a contract extension with Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Shinnie has followed fellow 19-year-old Nick Ross's example, the midfielder having agreed a two-and-a-half year extension to his deal last week.

Caley Thistle manager Terry Butcher said: "It's satisfying to ensure that Graeme stays at this club till the end of season 2012-13.

"And I'm sure there's plenty more development to come from the lad."

Shinnie, a product of the club's youth system, broke into the first team last season but has become a regular this term.

Following an injury to Kenny Gillet, the 19-year-old has played in the side's last 11 league games.

Butcher told his club website that Shinnie "has shown composure beyond his years since coming in to the first team".

"I'm pleased to see another local teenager earning a professional contract," he added.

"It's good for the club and it's a real incentive to others coming through our youth set-up.

"There's plenty of talent there, but they have to be ready to grasp their opportunity when it comes in the way that Nick and Graeme have done."
