Barrowman hit 29 goals for Ross County last season

Striker Andy Barrowman says he is desperate to prove himself at Inverness Caley Thistle after making the step up to Scotland's top flight.

The 23-year-old joined from Ross Country on a three-year deal after scoring 29 goals last season.

Barrowman is Inverness manager Craig Brewster's first summer signing.

"I look forward to working with and learning from the players and hopefully they can improve me and I can bring something to the team," said Barrowman.

And the striker says he did not make his decision to join Brewster's side lightly.

"It was a big decision to make because, at this stage in my career, I had to make sure it was the right move," he said.

"I spoke to players whose opinions I respect and friends and family, but ultimately it was up to me.

"First and foremost, I want to establish myself in the team as a player."

Barrowman started his career with Birmingham City but made only one appearance in five years, spending time on loan to Crewe Alexandra, Blackpool and Mansfield.

After a short spell with Walsall, he joined Kilmarnock, but was farmed out to Queen of the South before making a permanent move to the First Division outfit.

He joined Ross County last summer and his efforts in helping the Dingwall outfit win the Second Division title led to interest from clubs in Scotland and England.

Brewster was made to wait to get his man, but he says he understands why Barrowman took so long and has welcomed the striker into the squad.

"I had to be patient as Barrowman was always my main target," Brewster confessed.

"He did every well last season. He has great potential and some excellent attributes and will be a welcome addition to the squad.

"He is very focused and always conducts himself very well.

"At the age of 23, to commit to a three-year contract was a big decision for him to make so I can appreciate why he took his time in doing so."

Hearts forward Calum Elliot also remains on Caley Thistle's wanted list.

But director of football Graham Bennett admits a transfer is unlikely to happen until the Tynecastle club bring in a new face of their own.

"I think Hearts will have to find a new manager before anything happens," he said.
