Singer ends Inverness Euro hopes
Elton John in concert
Elton John is playing a gig at Caledonian Stadium
Elton John has thwarted Inverness Caledonian Thistle's hopes of entering next season's Intertoto Cup.

The singer will play a concert at the club's Caledonian Stadium on 15 July, a date that clashes with the second round of the tournament.

And director of football Graeme Bennett said: "We're withdrawing our interest in the Intertoto Cup.

"The cup dates clash with an Elton John concert at the stadium, which would've been a big issue."

Bennett was also frustrated with the organisation of last season's tournament, when Caley Thistle were denied a place.

"We were also left hanging on so late last year to find if we were in the Intertoto that we don't want the same hassle," said Bennett.

"We'll now look to fix up a training camp in Italy."

Meanwhile, Gary McSwegan is still awating an answer from Caley Thistle boss Charlie Christie on his future.

The 36-year-old striker has made two starts since signing from Ross County in August and is out of contract in June.

"I accept the club are probably hanging off to see what develops with players coming in," he said.

"But the sooner my situation is sorted out the better."
