Inverness Caledonian Thistle have signed Ross County captain Don Cowie on a pre-contract agreement.
Cowie will be free to move to Inverness in May
The 24-year-old, whose contract at Dingwall expires in the summer, has been with the First Division club for seven years.
But Cowie insisted the lure of a move to the top-flight was too great.
"Going to Caley Thistle offers me the chance to play in the SPL, which has been my great ambition," the long-serving midfielder said.
"It will be a tremendous wrench to leave County as this is my eighth season full-time with them.
"But there comes a point when you have to do what's best for yourself."
Cowie will follow former County team-mate John Rankin into the Inverness midfield.
"I hope fans will look at it as Caley Thistle and their fans have done with Darren Dods, who has signed a pre-contract agreement (with Dundee Utd) to leave in May," he added.
Talks about a return to Caledonian Stadium from Dundee United for midfielder David Proctor came to nothing.
There had been suggestions of a swap deal involving Dods.
But Caley Thistle were unwilling to let Dods leave before the summer.
Meanwhile, 19-year-old goalkeeper Jonathon Smith has moved from Inverness to Highland League neighbours Clachnacuddin.
