Christie was delighted with the win over Rangers

Inverness Caledonian Thistle manager Charlie Christie was a happy man after the 2-1 win over Rangers - one he admits was unexpected.

"It was a tremendous night as it is well documented that we have been on a bad run," he told BBC Radio Scotland.

"To take six points from Glasgow Rangers and show the appetite and desire that we did was phenomenal.

"We matched them toe-to-toe and we got a tremendous goal at the end to win it, so I'm delighted."

It was the Highlanders first home win over the Glasgow side but follows their victory at Ibrox earlier in the season and Christie felt this result was a boost for his side.

"It is just three points, an unexpected three points, but it does lots for confidence as we have been on such a poor run," he added.

"We had more attempts on goal - barring Celtic this season - against Rangers than any other side in this league - it was well into double figures - so that says a lot for my players."

John Rankin won the game with a wonderful last-minute strike and Christie was proud of the former Ross County midfielder.

"It was such a sweetly struck shot from a boy I brought here," he said.

"We are a small club but this result shows what we are capable of and we now look forward to the matches against Falkirk and St Mirren."
