Hull reject Wolves transfer bid for Stephen Hunt

Hunt happy to remain at Hull

Hull City have turned down a £5m offer from Premier League relegation rivals Wolves for midfielder Stephen Hunt.

Reports had suggested the Tigers would consider any player offers as they look to clear club debts of a reported £9m.

However, a statement on the Hunt bid read: "A verbal offer has been rejected and we're not expecting a further bid."

Hull's Daniel Cousin has been loaned out, though, to Greek side Larissa, while Peter Halmosi has been sent to Hungarian side Szombathelyi Haladas.

Former Hull midfielder Bryan Hughes, meanwhile, looks to be heading to Walsall on a free transfer after having his Tigers contract paid up a few days ago.

But Hunt looks likely to stay at the KC Stadium at least until the summer after what was a fourth bid from Wolves was rejected.

"That's the end of it I suppose, unless they come in with something very quickly," said Hull assistant manager Brian Horton.

"That's how it stands. Unless it's an offer you feel is one you completely have to take, no manager wants to sell his best players so that is the end of the story with Stephen Hunt."

And Republic of Ireland international Hunt himself insists he is happy to stay at Hull and added: "I gather the clubs have been talking a bit but, for what I know, I'm staying.

I'm happy at Hull City. When 1700 GMT comes this evening it will probably be a bit of a relief

"In the past I've got involved in transfers and mucked my head up but I've pretty much said nothing this time, got my head down and let my football do the talking.

"I'm happy at Hull City. When 1700 GMT comes this evening it will probably be a bit of a relief."

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy, meanwhile, explained: "We have offered to pay over the odds on three or four players but it is just not going to happen.

"We have been prepared to do it and we have bid more than others but they don't want to come or the clubs don't want to sell.

"There has to be a cut-off point."
