Brown finds positives despite defeat

Hull boss Phil Brown vented his anger at referee Alan Wiley after his side were denied a penalty in their 3-1 defeat by Arsenal at the KC Stadium.

Brown was furious play continued after Johan Djourou clattered into on-loan striker Manucho before their equaliser.

Brown said: "I've got Brian Horton in my staff who has coached many games. He says it's not a penalty, it's assault."

Brown was also frustrated after he had been told on Thursday that Rob Stiles would be officiating the Arsenal match.

I know you are going to get human error but decisions seem to be going against us at the moment

Hull boss Phil Brown
Wiley was in charge at Anfield in December when Liverpool stormed back from being two goals down to draw 2-2.

It was a performance from Wiley that Brown was also very unhappy with.

"The last time I spoke to the Football Association's referee's chiefKeith Hackett he said Wiley would not be refereeing Hull City for a long time," added Brown.

"He refereed us at Anfield and dropped a clanger that day that cost us two points.

"Two days ago I was told Rob Stiles would be refereeing and three hours before the game I was told Alan Wiley was refereeing.

"Why it was changed I have no idea but that is a conversation that's gone on behind closed doors. I'm not against Wiley. I think he's a good referee but a couple of major decisions are costing us."

Shortly before Daniel Cousin made it 1-1, Manucho collided with Djourou in the box, an incident that left the Angolan striker with a facial wound and the Hull's players appealing for a penalty.

Samir Nasri and Nicklas Bendtner then went on to score late goals and secure a fifth successive league loss for Hull.

Brown added: "All I'm after is major decisions. Every manager in the Premier League wants the major decisions to be correct.

"I know you are going to get human error but they seem to be going against us at the moment."
