Hull chief seeks transfer reform

Paul Duffen
Hull chairman Duffen is demanding changes to the transfer system

Hull City chairman Paul Duffen has demanded a change to the way the Premier League transfer window works.

He told BBC Look North: "I, like most people, think that the window is a completely artificial device.

"It doesn't do anything productive for football. It leads to over-inflated prices being paid on the last day," he added.

"The sooner we get away from it the better but we have to deal with what we've got."

Duffen was speaking the day after he lost out to Tottenham in the race for striker Fraizer Campbell from Manchester United.

He will be making his point again when the Premier League shareholders meet on Thursday.

"I'm certainly going to be lobbying to change this rule," he said.

"We've had it for six years now which doesn't mean it's right, doesn't mean we have to keep it, and I think we should try very hard to get rid of it."
