Molby takes Hull job
Brian Little and Jan Molby
Molby (right) takes over from the sacked Brian Little
Hull chairman Adam Pearson believes he has appointed "the ideal candidate" in Jan Molby.

Former Liverpool midfielder Molby was appointed on a three-year contract to take the ambitious Humberside club forward.

But the Tigers could face a compensation claim from Molby's previous club, Kidderminster.

Molby resigned as Harriers' manager the previous week, although Hull insist no approach had been made to him.

I'm sure we will work closely together to bring success to Hull City
Hull chairman Adam Pearson

Hull would have faced a compensation demand of around 100,000 had they moved for Molby while he was still at Kidderminster.

The Aggborough club issued a statement following Molby's appointment at Hull.

It said: "The board of directors at Kidderminster Harriers are aware of Jan Molby's appointment and action will be taken as appropriate to protect the interests of the club.

"Further information of what is being done will be released in due course."

Molby succeeds Brian Little, who left Hull in February.

I wanted to appoint a manager who craves for success for this club as much as myself and the supporters
Adam Pearson

The former Danish international's first match in charge of the Tigers will be against promoted Luton.

Pearson said: "It was Jan's enthusiasm and determination to succeed that made him the ideal candidate for the job.

"I'm sure we will work closely together to bring success to Hull City.

"I wanted to appoint a manager who craves for success for this club as much as myself and the supporters.

"He understands and knows about the Third Division but also has a hunger to return to the top levels of football."

Molby's appointment signals the end of Billy Russell's brief spell as caretaker boss.
