Huddersfield switch excites defender Krystian Pearce

Krystian Pearce says he could stay at Huddersfield Town beyond the summer.

The 20-year-old central defender joined the Terriers from Birmingham City until the end of the season on Tuesday with a view to a longer contract.

Pearce told BBC Radio Leeds: "I found out last week about the interest so it came about quite quickly but I'm glad to be here.

"I'm here until the summer and hopefully if I do well then I'll sign for longer after that."

Pearce was an unused substitute in Tuesday's goalless draw at home to Bristol Rovers and admitted he is not guaranteed a first-team place.

"The manager picks the team and if he wants to leave me on the bench then that's his choice," he said.

"But I've come here to play games so that's what I'm looking to do."

The defender has not made an appearance for the Birmingham first team, but won promotion to the Championship while on loan at Scunthorpe United last season and that was partly what attracted Huddersfield manager Lee Clark to him.

"He's a very strong, powerful young man, and quick," Clark said.

"He played 38 times last season for Scunthorpe in this league when they won promotion so he's experienced being successful.

"He can handle the expectation that comes with that - the pressure when you're up there and you need to keep producing performances and results.

"I'm excited and looking forward to working with him, "Clark added.

Pearce signed another season-long loan at Peterborough this campaign, but returned to St Andrews following the departure of Darren Ferguson from London Road.
