Peter Clarke believes moving from Southend United to Huddersfield Town will take his career to a higher level.

The 27-year-old defender signed in early June on a free transfer and told BBC Radio Leeds that money was not the reason for his move to Huddersfield.

"As a professional sports person you want to play at the highest level you possible can.

"That's my main ambition, I believe this club is in a better position to make the transition to the next level."

Clarke started his career at Everton as a trainee before having loan spells at Blackpool, Port Vale and Coventry.

The defender signed for Southend United in 2006 after spending two years at Blackpool. Clarke made 145 appearances more the Shrimpers scoring 11 goals.
