Huddersfield make double signing

Huddersfield have signed Watford striker Lionel Ainsworth and Stockport midfielder Anthony Pilkington for undisclosed fees.

Pilkington, 20, has signed for three-and-a-half years, while Ainsworth, 21, has signed for two-and-a-half years.

"They are outstanding young footballers but they are hungry to do better," Town boss Lee Clark told BBC Radio Leeds.

"We feel they can come on a journey with us at Huddersfield and compete at higher levels successfully."

Neither player will be available for Saturday's League One clash at leaders Leicester City.

Ainsworth, who has been on loan at Hereford, and Pilkington will be familiar to Huddersfield Town fans already this season.

We beat off competition from both players and in both cases from a league above us as well

Huddersfield manager Lee Clark

Pilkington played for Stockport against the Terriers on the opening day of the season, while Ainsworth was in the Hereford side that drew at the Galpharm Stadium in December.

On Ainsworth, Clark said: "He was impressive at the Galpharm in my first game but I've also seen him previously playing for Hereford.

"The criteria I've set out about signings is for young, hungry players but being good footballers that can come on a journey with us from here to where we want to go."

Clark also revealed that he fought off competition from Championship clubs to secure the signatures of the two youngsters.

"Once we got agreements with their clubs it was quite simple really - the boys were very enthusiastic, we told them what we're trying to achieve and where we want to go.

"We're delighted to have them because we know we beat off competition for both players and in both cases from a league above us as well."
