Terriers snap up Machin
Mel Machin

Huddersfield Town have recruited former Barnsley and Bournemouth boss Mel Machin to help them through their current crisis.

The Terriers are in relegation trouble and recorded only their second win in 16 games after defeating Cardiff 1-0 on Saturday.

Machin will assist manager Mick Wadsworth in trying to guide Town to safety, although the exact nature of his role is still to be confirmed.

"I've got one or two ideas to put to Mick and we've got plenty to work with, so you never give up on a situation" Machin told the Huddersfield Examiner newspaper.

"I know the financial position here is tough and I've been through all that at Bournemouth.

"It's when you need your leaders and your characters and people to respond in the right way. The finances make it difficult to focus at times, and I know Mick will react in the right way.

"Sometimes in football you don't get the rewards for the work you put in but, eventually, I know that with Mick being the character he is it will happen for him."
