Histon to re-sign winger Antonio Murray

Histon have agreed a deal to bring winger Antonio Murray back to the club, says boss John Beck.

The 25-year-old left the Stutes in the summer of 2009 and joined Blue Square South side Chelmsford before switching to Cambridge United in February.

The former Ipswich trainee played just 12 games for the U's and was released by the club at the end of the season.

Beck told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I'm sure he's pleased to be signing back with us, I'm very pleased."

He added: "I think he lost his way a bit, his fitness has gone down and he'll be the first to admit to that.

"It's a fantastic bonus and I think the big plus for Antonio is he is a utility player and I see him as a central midfielder or central striker."

Antonio will probably be the more experienced player in the squad, or one of the more experienced players

Murray becomes Beck's first signing since becoming manager in May, but would have worked with the midfielder while assistant to former boss Steve Fallon.

The Stutes have lost the core of their squad after securing Blue Square Bet Premier survival on the final day of last season, and Beck has previously admitted youth players will be central to the club's survival.

"Antonio will probably be the more experienced player in the squad, or one of the more experienced players," he added.

Murray initially arrived at the Glass World Stadium in 2007 from Hibernian and went on to score 22 goals in 86 appearances.
