Charlie Sheringham makes Histon switch

Histon have signed striker Charlie Sheringham on loan from Bishop's Stortford until the end of the season with a view to a permanent move.

Sheringham, who is the son of former England international Teddy, started his career with Ipswich Town.

The 21-year-old told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "It's a great opportunity for me and my job is now to prove myself at Conference level.

"I'm confident I can make an impact at this level and score goals."

Sheringham made his debut for the Stutes as a substitute in Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Oxford.

He rejoins former Bishop Stortford team-mate Glen Southam who made the move up the M11 in January.

"I've known Glen for a while as I played with him at Bishop's Stortford and he influenced my decision to come to Histon."

The Stutes have struggled for goals at times this season and Sheringham is hoping to provide a fresh option up front.

"I'm aiming to bring goals to the side as that's what I've done at other clubs over the past couple of seasons," he said.

Histon fans will also be hoping to see Sheringham's famous dad down at the Glass World.

He says it can be frustrating being in the shadow of his father.

"Being asked about my dad does get a bit tiresome sometimes, but I can't knock it as he was a great player.

"I've been told my style is similar to my dad and that certainly isn't a bad thing."

Meanwhile, former Darlington goalkeeper David Knight has signed an 18-month contract after spending the past two weeks on trial.
