Histon bolster attacking options

Histon have moved to improve their attacking options ahead of the new season with three new players signing deals at the Glass World.

Craig Hammond, 21, has signed a one-year contract after joining from from Royston for an undisclosed fee.

Lee Smith, also 21, arrives from Bury Town on a two-year deal, whilst Bradley Hudson-Odoi, 20, signs until January.

The Stutes have been looking to bring in strikers having seen Jack Midson and Antonio Murray leave the club.

Following the collapse of Setanta, Histon looked unlikely to increase the size of their squad, but have found extra financing through businessmen Tony Roach and Raj Chodankar.

Boss Steve Fallon admits he is gambling with young talent, but is confident they can have an impact on the first team before too long.

"It's important we have a squad that can sustain the pressures of football at this level," he said.

"Last season taught us you need 24 players at this level to sustain a push for promotion."

Hammond - a Histon academy product who failed to make the grade - scored over 80 goals for Royston in the South Midlands League last season.

Smith impressed in a recent friendly between Histon and Bury Town, whilst Hudson-Odoi is a Ghanaian Under-20 international who spent the end of last season on loan at Grays Athletic.

Meanwhile, Histon have released striker Lee Roache after an eight-month stay.

The former Cambridge City man failed to find the back of the net in 12 substitute appearances last season.
