Histon manager Steve Fallon has said his side will be scaling down their transfer plans following the collapse of pay TV-broadcaster Setanta.
The Stutes were relying on money from Setanta to fund their summer recruitment drive.
Fallon told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "A lot of people at the Conference are confident Setanta will be replaced, but we can't gamble on doing things now.
"We'll have to wait and see, things are on hold as they are at a lot of clubs."
Following a hugely successful second season in the Blue Square Premier, Histon lost four of their players over the summer.
Patrick Ada, Jack Midson, Antonio Murray and Mat Mitchel-King were all out of contract at the Glass World Stadium with the club unable to afford long term deals.
Cambridge City striker Michael Frew and Hemel defender Bowden-Haase have come in, but Fallon says a replacement for Mitchel-King is the only likely arrival at the current time.
"There are a lot of players looking for clubs, but they're asking for too much money in this climate," he said.
"Hopefully things will start to change and demands will start to come down; we can't afford to pay full-time wages to part-time players."
