Danny Galbraith wins new Hibs contract

Danny Galbraith has been handed a new contract with Hibernian despite dropping out of the first-team in the last two games under Colin Calderwood.

The 20-year-old former Manchester United youth forward has signed a deal that ties him to the Easter Road club until the summer of 2013.

Galbraith told the club website: "Now I want to repay the manager and show what I am capable of on a regular basis.

"It gives you a boost when you get recognition from the manager."

Galbraith moved to Easter Road after leaving United in summer 2009.

He broke into the first-team last season under John Hughes and scored his first - and so far only - goal for the Edinburgh club in a 2-1 win away to Celtic in January 2010.

Danny has impressed me with both his ability and his work ethic

But he has failed to hit the net in 25 appearances this term and has not featured in the starting line-up as Hibs' poor form under new manager Calderwood ended with two straight wins.

Despite that, Galbraith is confident of a bright future at Easter Road.

"It gives me the time to keep progressing and developing at the club," he said of his new contract.

"Hibernian is the best place for me to be and I'm grateful to the club for giving me a chance to rebuild my career after my injury problems.

"I just want to build on what I've achieved this season and to help the club compete at the highest level."

Galbraith's time at Old Trafford was blighted by ankle, knee and groin problems, but Calderwood is pleased with his contribution for Hibs this season.

"Danny has impressed me with both his ability and his work ethic," said the manager. "He is determined to improve.

"That desire to learn and to develop certainly bodes well for his future and also for Hibernian.

"He is a valued member of the squad and has already shown he is a match-winner."
